Thomas Beug explores family, home and time in docu short “A Small Fortress” screening at Kinsale Arts Weekend in Co. Cork, Ireland.
Director Thomas Beug has unveiled a documentary short called “A Small Fortress” that will screen at noon on Saturday, July 11 July at Kinsale Arts Weekend. “A Small Fortress” observes the relationship of filmmaker Thomas’ aging parents with each other – his mother is an artist, his father a retired academic and photographer – and with their old farmhouse in Co. Cork near Kinsale.
The film’s title, “A Small Fortress”, comes from the old Irish name for the house, Dún, which means fortress. Thomas chose the title in reference to the house’s origins in the 1600s and what his parents have created over the last 50 years, which he describes as “a small fortress with its own rhythms, customs, quirks and custodians.”
