Puppets sing “Lessons From My Neighborhood” in Sesame Street-style series for Youth Ambassadors, created by VML/Kansas City and directed by Seyi Peter-Thomas.
The three videos, a Creativity Editor’s Pick, tackle heartrending, horrific tips–like how to “duck, dodge and roll” when you hear gunshots on the street, what to do when your mom overdoses or how to fill up on air and water when there’s no food in the house.
The juxaposition of the jaunty puppets and the subject matter is particularly hard-hitting, and what makes even more of an impact is that the “lessons” are taken directly from quotes by real children. The PSAs end with the message “No child should have to learn a lesson like this.”
